Effects of microplastics on potato verticillium wilt and microbial community of rhizosphere soil

摘要: Microplastics can significantly influence soil physicochemical properties as well as the microbial community. Soil-borne diseases occurrence is closely related to soil nutrition and microecology. However, there have been no reports on whether microplastics directly or indirectly affect soil-borne diseases occurrence. We conducted a greenhouse cultivation experiment to investigate the effects of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) on the potato verticillium wilt (PVW) disease index (DI). qPCR and metagenomics sequencing were used to investigate the quantity of Verticillium dahlia, microbial community structure and function. We found that: (1) DI significantly increased to 187.50 % in 1.0 % LDPE treatment, while V. dahliae quantity did not change significantly; (2) Nitrate nitrogen (NO3-N), ammonium nitrogen, available phosphorus (AP) and organic matter (OM) content increased by 14.43-74.49 %, 24.77-38.59 %, 2.01-48.29 % and 13.46-105.22 % under LDPE treatments, respectively; (3) Bacterial and fungal community composition differed significantly in LDPE treatments from control (0 % LDPE). Bacterial communities structure was significantly correlated with AP, and fungal community structure to NO3 -N and OM; and (4) LDPE might indirectly change microbial community structure and function by NO3 -N, AP and OM, which may significantly increase DI. The findings suggest that LDPE may exacerbate disease by its effects on microbial communities rather than V. dahliae, indicating microplastic impacts on soilborne diseases should receive more attention.
