Quantitative analysis of osteoprotegerin and RANKL expression in osteoblast grown on different calcium phosphate ceramics

摘要: Calcium phosphate ceramics are well-known biomaterials used in orthopaedic and dental applications as bone substitute. In this study, SaOS-2 cells were grown on calcium phosphate ceramics with different phase composition for 3 and 6 days, RANKL and OPG mRNA expression were detected with quantitative in situ hybridization technique. Result showed that Saos-2 grown on tricalcium phosphate and a biphasic calcium phosphate ceramics with high tricalcium phosphate ratio expressed higher RANKL mRNA after 6 days culture. There is no significant difference in OPG expression on different surfaces after 3 days and 6 days culture. It can be concluded that tricalcium phosphate ceramics may induce more bone remodeling than hydroxyapatite when implanted in vivo.
