摘要: The purpleback ying squid (Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis) is a pelagic species in the Indo-Pacic region (Okutani and Tung, 1978; Roper et al., 1984). Wormuth (1976) reported this squid species from the South China Sea. It was rst captured in the 1970s (around Xisha, Zhongsha and Nansha islands). Between 1997 and 2000, abundant populations were described and assessed o the South China Sea coast (SCS) (Siriraksophon et al., 2001a,b; Jia et al., 2004; Zhang et al., 2010). In recent years, this squid species has attracted increasing interest from countries and regions of the SCS. Catches are usually highly variable because of large inter-annual uctuations in abundance (Rathjen and Voss, 1987). Systematic surveying and accurate estimates of stock size are the primary basis and requirement for a rational exploitation.
