Recent developments of thermal energy storage applications in the greenhouse environment: A comprehensive review

摘要: Global climate change and the food crisis accelerate the imperative for greenhouse horticulture to move towards energy conservation, high efficiency and sustainability. Greenhouse architecture design must integrate thermal energy storage and utilization, thus enhancing crop productivity and quality through the development of thermoenvironmental control technologies for appropriate greenhouse microclimates. Based on the bibliometric method, this comprehensive survey focused on the state-of-the-art literature of the application technology of greenhouse management systems over the last decade. Aiming to statistically analyze the research hotspots in the greenhouse industry, this work applied the visualization software VOSviewer to implement network analysis of geographic countries and academic institutions, research categories, source journals and highly cited articles, and keyword terminology co-occurrence. The results show that majority of scholars focus on energy efficiency optimization and solar energy utilization techniques. In addition, we divided the research hotspot into five interrelated research domains according to cluster analysis: greenhouse energy storage and thermal insulation, greenhouse ventilation management, horticultural crop growth requirements, greenhouse climate monitoring and control, and food security and urban agriculture. Furthermore, we discussed greenhouse energy modeling and its constraints. This work also reviews the characteristics and advantages of the various integrated technologies that have been used in modern energy-efficient solar greenhouses (i.e., photovoltaics, underground heat exchangers, heat pumps, phase change materials, and solar collectors). Lastly, the research directions and challenges were briefly described, and these results can provide valuable insights for greenhouse practitioners in the future.
