摘要: The modern shrimp farming industry in China has a history of only about two decades, but the rate of development and scale of production has generated much attention worldwide. Since 1986, China has been a world leader in the artificial propagation of shrimp larvae and total output of cultured shrimp. However, over the last few years, the shrimp fanning industry in China has faced many problems, particularly the 1993 epizootic that caused serious economic losses. This paper briefly reviews the history of the development of shrimp farming in China, introduces the distribution and biological characteristics of shrimp species cultivated, and defines some of the technical aspects of production including broodstock maturation, reproduction, larval rearing, nursery culture, growout and feeding. Analyses of the current status of shrimp culture in China and causes of the epizootic of 1993 are made. Suggestions for further stabilization and development of shrimp culture in China are presented. Recommendations include improving technical training for shrimp farmers, establishing a high health shrimp larval rearing system, sludge removal and sterilization of ponds, encouraging propagation of feed organisms in shrimp ponds, controlling stocking densities, improving pond management, strengthening nutrition research, improving production of formulated shrimp feeds, developing polyculture, increasing economic returns. perfecting water quality and disease control systems, introducing and popularizing new technologies, increasing scientific research on disease control and prevention, and strengthening the government's control and management of the industry. Perspectives on the future of the shrimp farming industry in China are discussed.
