摘要: Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc) is the causal pathogen of Fusarium wilt of banana. To understand some of the early events in the Foc-Musa interaction, we created a green fluorescent protein (GFP)-tagged transformant and studied its pathogenesis using fluorescence microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy. The study showed that: (i) Foc race 4 was capable of invading the epidermal cells of banana roots directly; (ii) Invasion sites included epidermal cells of root caps and in the elongation zone. Our results showed that roots of Foc race 4-susceptible banana plants were well colonised with the pathogen and demonstrated that GFP-tagged Foc race 4 isolates present an effective tool to study banana root-fungus interactions.
