摘要: Banded grouper (Epinephelus awoara) and threadsial lesh (Stephanolepis cirrhifer) are economically important species in coastal areas of the South China Sea. When hydroacoustic methods are used for eld surveys, target strength (TS) information on the species is needed to estimate population abundance. However, their acoustic scatter characteristics must rst be studied prior to using this hydroacoustic method. The echo characteristics of the individual sh can reect target strength (TS) and volume backscattering strength (SV), both of which are important parameters in acoustic resource assessment (Ona, 2003; Kang et al., 2005). Target strength is the critical parameter in the process of converting volume backscattering strength into absolute biomass (Fassler et al., 2009). Our study attempts to improve the understanding of TS for these two commercially important species.
