摘要: An elaboration technique is presented in which students at three universities (large urban, small regional, and historic African-American) were required to actively participate in the learning process by organizing information on two tax topics (Projects). The results from a Quiz and Final Exam were used to examine short-term and long-term effects of these Projects. Student opinions regarding usefulness of Projects were obtained in a survey. At all three universities, this self-generated elaboration Project appeared to be as effective in learning assigned topics as either textbook readings or textbook examples. Students generally indicated that their Projects were as beneficial in understanding the topics as reading the textbook.
